The Art Institutes showcased 9 designers at The Arc for NYFW. Each designer this year had a very unique fashion aesthetic bringing very different looks to the runway. The season's theme was "Destinations" and each designer took us on an inspirational journey to discover what fashion means to them.
All the collections that hit the runway looked like they were created by seasoned designers, not students. The designs and collections were impressive and reveals that the future of fashion is on the move...So be on the look out for these 3 standout designers!
The Designers & Collection
Designer #1: Adrian Escoto (Graduate, AAS Fashion Design program, The Art Institute of New York City) – He presented a collection made up of 60's mod denim patchwork designs that were sporty, comfy, and chic. It was the 60's meeting street wear for the first time they feel in love. This collection was a great twist to the ever so popular street wear style that has become ever so popular in the high-fashion world.
Designer #2: Bianca Zidik (Graduate, BFA Fashion Design program, 2016, The Illinois Institute of Art- Chicago) – Her looks that hit the runway was inspired by the London Street named "Carnaby Street", which was the center of the Swinging London mod scene where all the cool kids would hang out. The collection was fashion forward and she nailed it, creating pieces that were fun, funky, and groovy. Her use of brightly colored pinks and oranges really stood out and took us back to the free-spirited days of the 1960's.
Designer #3: Mimmy Begazo (Graduate, BFA Fashion Design program, 2016, Miami International University of Art & Design) – Her collection that hit the runway was out of this world...literally! It was as she named it, "Destination Beyond." The Avant-Garde pieces were made up of contrasting colors of cowhide hair, wrapped with beautiful silver foil, combined with shimmering fabrics that brought glamour, audacity and futuristic vibes to NYFW runway. Mimmy is an amazing designer that even sports her own creations...and that is why she was the favorite of the night! All in all, her collection was beautifully bizarre, wearable , yet high fashion!
